Like many others, my family and I participated in the Yellowknife march to commemorate the 215 children found buried in unmarked graves at the Kamloops Indian Residential School. It must have been one of the largest public marches in the history of the NWT, easily approaching 1,000 people.

The very thought that Hay River may not have school buses as of the fall is, well, unthinkable.

I write this piece from the perspective of a settler, a xahto or guest, in the traditional territory of the Katodeeche First Nation. I also write it as a negotiator for the Katodeeche First Nation (KFN) on Aboriginal and Treaty rights issues, although the opinions in this piece are my own and do not necessarily reflect KFN perspectives or positions.

Tales from the dump: Just call him mellow, Yellowknife

One day the song Mellow Yellow just jumped into my brain. It is one of those songs that once youve heard it several times, you can play it in your head. The trouble is it just keeps playing. Nice song but it can also get a little annoying and be hard to get rid of. This is probably why it was such a success, way back when. It was written and sung by a fellow named Donavan in 1967. So, it is an oldie.

窪蹋勛圖厙 Wildflower: too many doors, too many windows in Kamloops and elsewhere

I dont ever want to live in a big house with too many doors, too many windows and too many empty silent rooms. If I am ever able to afford to live in a big home like the pink mansion on the hill just before Ndilo, I want to fill it with happiness. With the laughter of my children, my grandchildren and my great grandchildren. I want to fill it with love.
