A 10-year agreement has been signed between the Tlicho government and Crown-Indigenous Relations and ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Affairs Canada to improve access to jobs surrounding the Giant Mine Remediation Project.

"This agreement not only enables us to plan for and implement training programs for Tlicho citizens, but it also creates a path for relief from the impacts of the diamond mine closures that will also affect members of our nation who lose their jobs with mine closures," said Tlicho Grand Chief Jackson Lafferty. "The training programs we advance with this funding will support the building of Tlicho capacity and our goal to advance and uphold the Tlicho Nation’s economic self-sufficiency."

An announcement of the $1.99-million per year deal was released April 24, following the official signing on March 6.

Funds are tied to the 2025-35 inflation index and will be used to implement training and education programs for Tlicho workers to allow for greater access to economic opportunities in the environmental restoration project.
