Police arrest 12-year-old in Fort McPherson after shots fired

Fort McPherson RCMP say they've arrested a 12-year-old boy in connection with a shooting incident in the community.

Police say at roughly 5:23 a.m. on May 16, a gunshot was fired through a window of a residence. They received a report that a 12-year-old boy had threatened to kill another youth who was inside the home.

The suspect was located at another building and arrested without incident shortly afterwards. A firearm believed to be used in the incident was also recovered.

Remanded into custody and due to appear in territorial court on May 20, the boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm, uttering threats against a person, uttering threats against property and mischief under $5,000.
