It鈥檚 barely been a week since the GNWT announced it was lifting travel restrictions on travel between the Beaufort Delta and the Yukon and already the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer is issuing a travel advisory for anyone going towards Whitehorse.

Noting the Yukon has seen an increase in Covid-19 cases over the last week, the June 10 notice advises anyone travelling to the Yukon to 鈥渞eview the Yukon government鈥檚 COVID-19 information website to make informed choices about travelling to the territory.鈥�

鈥淭he COVID-19 situation in the Yukon has changed significantly in the last week,鈥� said Dr. Kami Kandola in the release. 鈥淭here are currently six confirmed and two probable COVID-19 cases and the Yukon government says that three people are hospitalized. A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Yukon鈥檚 Eagle Gold Mine.鈥�

No changes are currently being proposed to the new exemption process at this time. It notes each exemption request is reviewed individually and travel plans that are considered high risk may result in recommendations to self-isolate on return. It adds that if the Covid-19 outbreaks in the Yukon continue to escalate, the CPHO may consider requiring testing for people returning from the Yukon.

Travellers are also asked to visit the Yukon government鈥檚 website to ensure their destination is safe.
