Yellowknife RCMP say they and the NWT Coroner Service have launched an investigation after a man drowned in Long Lake on Thursday.

Police say they received a report at 7:45 p.m. that an individual who had been paddleboarding had gone under the water and did not resurface.

"The fire department and emergency medical services were already on scene," said NT RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Josh Seaward regarding the emergency response.

"Officers responded and began an investigation. The victim, a 32-year-old male, was recovered from the water by the fire department and lifesaving efforts immediately began but were unsuccessful."

No other details were provided in the RCMP's news release issued late Friday morning.
