Naka Festival returning for 2021

The annual Naka Festival, celebrating the 窪蹋勛圖厙 lights and surrounding culture, is returning for its third year from March 1 to 31. 

Naka, Wiiliideh for 窪蹋勛圖厙 lights, is a festival recognizing the aurora borealis through events such as photography workshops, a seminar on the science of the lights, film viewings, a fashion show and storytelling, among other events taking place both in person and virtually.

The Naka Festival is a great opportunity to explore and celebrate 窪蹋勛圖厙 culture and the aurora borealis, and this year is no different, said Mayor Rebecca Alty in a news release.

I encourage everyone to get involved either online or in person, following all Covid-19 protocols and enjoy these fantastic events.

The festival is being put on by the City of Yellowknife, the the Yellowknives Dene First Nation, the North Slave Metis Alliance, the Government of the Northwest Territories and Northwest Territories Tourism.
