Rankin Inlet Mayor Robert Janes succumbed to cancer on May 15 after a lengthy battle with the disease.

The Hamlet of Rankin Inlet issued a news release today extending condolences to Janes鈥� family.
Janes served six years and mayor and was a hamlet councillor for many years prior to that.
鈥淗e served his community with great dedication during this time and had always worked towards the best interest of the residents of Rankin,鈥� the hamlet鈥檚 news release reads.
Deputy mayor Harry Towtongie will take over duties as mayor.
