A Ulukhaktok man is facing charges after allegedly firing shots from a rifle at someone's cabin.

NT RCMP say police were called on Aug. 26 at approximately 5:17 p.m. about an individual who was shooting their firearm at an occupied cabin just outside of the community.

Police were able to evacuate the occupant of the cabin safely.

"Shortly after, the suspect who was found to be intoxicated, surrendered himself to police without incident," said NT RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Josh Seaward. "No injuries were reported. A loaded rifle was recovered from the scene."

Adam Ekpakohak, 43, of Ulukhaktok, is charged with careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm. He appeared before a justice of the peace and was allowed to leave on a release order.
