Accidental bear spray discharge prompts emergency response at Yukon daycare

First responders were on scene this morning in Granger area after child accidentally set off canister

Parents and caregivers are picking their kids up from a Whitehorse daycare after an accidental bear spray discharge.

Three fire trucks, multiple ambulances and RCMP vehicles were on scene outside a daycare on Wilson Drive in the city's Granger neighbourhood this morning.

Children appeared to have been evacuated from the building and were sitting on the asphalt of a parking lot off Hamilton Boulevard shortly before 11 a.m. on May 14, according to a News reporter on scene.

Whitehorse firefighter Nicholas O’Carroll said one child got the worst of the accidental discharge and precautionary measures were being taken for other kids.

Yukon RCMP communications said by email that a child accidentally set off the canister.
