Whati is now under a full evacuation order.

The order was given at 10 a.m. Friday morning by Sherbaz Muhammad, Whati's senior administrative officer, after the community government issued a state of emergency due to the wildfire that has been threatening the community for several days.

The community government has instructed the nearly 600 residents to register first at the Whati Cultural Centre before making their way out. According to the community government, reception centres are being set up in both Behchoko and Yellowknife and evacuees will get more details when they arrive at either centre.

Yellowknife city councillor Garett Cochrane posted on social media that the Yellowknife registration location is the Multiplex on Kam Lake Road, but the community government indicated that the Multiplex won't be ready to accept evacuees until the end of the day.

The will be providing updates as things progress and we will have those updates when they're published.
