Premier R.J. Simpson said he believes the Edmonton Oilers can make a comeback in the Stanley Cup Finals. "You go anywhere in the North, you're gonna get the same answer," he added.

Premier R.J. Simpson and deputy premier Caroline Wawzonek are both confident the Edmonton Oilers can stage a comeback.

Tomorrow night marks Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers, the NWT's prohibitive favourites, and the Florida Panthers. Currently, Florida leads 3-2 in the best-of-seven series after winning Game 5 in Edmonton on Saturday night. Tomorrow night's game is in Florida.

Asked whether Edmonton can make a comeback, Wawzonek gave an adamant "of course."

"The whole Stanley Cup playoffs, there have been these crazy Game 7s, some crazy overtimes, it's good for our heart rate," she laughed.

She couldn't make any promises, but Wawzonek did say she would try and watch the game.

Simpson, who also voiced his support for the Oilers, said he believes the team can make a comeback too.

"You go anywhere in the North, you're gonna get the same answer," he added.

Like Wawzonek, Simpson said there's a good chance he's preoccupied with work to watch the game.

"I'll have it on in the background while I'm doing emails, maybe," he chuckled.

This year's final is a repeat of the 2024 series. Florida won that in seven games, despite Edmonton's best efforts to come back from being down 3-0 in games.

Game 6 will have a puck drop tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. MDT.
