Dear editor;
On Aug. 14, 2025, on Highway 1, at mile 40, my motorhome dropped its left ball joints, causing me to swerve into the oncoming lane. I managed to keep it on the road, but just.
A passing vehicle with three travelling veterinarians (Thaney, Lindsay and Jennifer from Manning, Alta.) stopped to assist us, and, to our luck, they were well connected in Hay River.
While driving us to Hay River, the young women made several calls to associates who may have been able to assist with the recovery of our motorhome. First stop was to see Marc (S), where the veterinarians had to clip some nails. From there, Marc made some very important calls that resulted in the recovery and repair of our vehicle. One of those calls was to his wife, Alana, who works at Rowe's Construction, and another to Kevin at Aurora’s. They arranged transportation for us to go to Castaway Cabins, where the veterinarians had made reservations for us. A young lady by the name of Sage took us grocery shopping then to our cabin.
Meanwhile, our vehicle was being recovered by Marc (R) from Rowe's Construction to be delivered to Aurora Truck Stop, where it was to be repaired.
The next morning, a young lady by the name of Allison drove us to Aurora so we could assess the damage and confirm that the motorhome could be repaired, and fortunately Aurora’s could do the job. Then Allison drove us to the Ptarmigan Inn to make reservations and then to the Ford dealer to pick up our rental.
The evening before, we tried to get a rental car and were told there were no vehicles available in Hay River, but Kevin at Aurora made a phone call to Steve at Aurora Ford and he arranged for us to get a vehicle. Thank you very much, Steve.
The repairs were completed on Aug. 19 and we were back on the road again on Aug. 20.
If it hadn’t been for this group of people being so helpful, this could have been a horrible experience. But because of their kindness and willingness to help, this was actually a memorable and, yes, an unforgettable experience.
Thanks to everyone who was involved in our little predicament.
All the best to all of you in the future.
