Close to 90,000 hectares have been burned by a growing wildfire that is menacing the southern boundary of Fort Providence.
Wildfire crews, along with structural firefighters from Fort Providence and Hay River, are tackling the inferno. Help from the air has been limited by thick smoke.
"Wet lines" are being created within the community — through use of water cannons and sprinklers — with the aim of preventing homes and other structures from being consumed by the flames, according to NWT Fire.
