Hay River RCMP seize drugs, money and gun in search warrant

RCMP executed a search warrant on an apartment in Hay River on Nov. 22, according to a Nov. 25 news release. It adds that RCMP found five people there, about 17 grams of suspected crack-cocaine, 14 grams of suspected fentanyl, a handgun and more than $3,000 in cash.

Hay River RCMP have arrested a 39-year-old following a firearm investigation after someone posted a picture of a handgun on social media and alluded to drug trafficking at an apartment building in Hay River. 

RCMP also state that this is the third time the accused, Savy You, has been arrested in 2024 for drug trafficking in the NWT.

On Nov. 22, police officers executed a search warrant on the apartment in question, according to a news release. It adds that RCMP found five people there, about 17 grams of suspected crack-cocaine, 14 grams of suspected fentanyl, a handgun and more than $3,000 in cash.

Four of those individuals were later released with no charges, the RCMP noted, but You is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon obtained by crime,possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000, failure to comply with release order conditions and failure to attend court.

You is from Toronto, according to RCMP. He had previously failed to attend court and was subject to a warrant for his arrest, and was also subject to court-ordered conditions to reside at a residence in Toronto, the RCMP's news release adds. 

You appeared before a justice of the peace and was remanded into custody, the Mounties added. 

This investigation remains ongoing.
