Foot pursuit lands 18-year-old in trouble with RCMP

An 18-year-old Yellowknife man is facing several firearms related charges as the result of a foot pursuit in the capital on Sept. 18.

An 18-year-old Yellowknife man is facing several firearms related charges as the result of a foot pursuit in the capital on Sept. 18.

According to a release from police on Friday, officers were called to a residence in Yellowknife in an attempt to arrest a suspect in an unrelated investigation. The suspect immediately fled from police. After a brief foot chase, officers were able to arrest the suspect, who was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun which turned out to be stolen.

The suspect has been accused of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without licence, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized, careless use of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm.

He appeared before a Justice of the Peace and is being held in custody until his next court appearance.
