Evacuees from Whati who were staying at the evacuation centre in Behchoko will be on their way to Yellowknife as of today.

The Tlicho Government announced Wednesday morning that the Ko Gocho Sportsplex, which had been serving as the evacuation centre, would be wrapping up operations at the end of the day Wednesday with those who had been staying there being bussed to the Fieldhouse. That facility is being used as the evacuation centre in the capital.

Buses started leaving the Sportsplex at 11:30 a.m., according to a social media post from the Tlicho Government, and were expected to arrive at around 1 p.m.

While the evacuation centre was closing, that didn't mean the end of services for those who are staying with either friends or family. The regional government indicated it would continue providing meals at the Culture Centre in Behchoko. Breakfast would be served between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., lunch between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and supper between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The government's health and wellness department is also providing services outside the evacuation centre in Yellowknife and would be performing drives around the city to check in with those who have been evacuated.

Evacuated families who are staying in Behchoko will have access to wellness help at the Charlie Charlo Building between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day.
