An Arctic Bay man is facing multiple charges after an incident in the community earlier this month.
According to a release from Nunavut RCMP on Friday afternoon, police received a complaint of someone discharging a firearm in the hamlet on May 8. When police arrived at the scene, the suspect apparently began firing on the responding officers.
Nunavut RCMP sent extra resources to the community and a shelter-in-place order was sent out telling residents to remain inside their homes.
The suspect was eventually arrested without incident or injury to either him or anyone else, which allowed for the shelter order to be lifted. One other person received non-life-threatening injuries.
As a result. Troy Akoomalik, 25, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of discharging a firearm with intent. He was flown to Iqaluit and has been remanded into custody until his next court appearance on June 3.
