A third suspect has been arrested in connection with a murder investigation in Hay River.
RCMP major crimes unit charged 25-year-old Sasha Cayen with murder and robbery, police announced Saturday. Cayen is currently in RCMP custody and will appear in court on Jan 8.
Police had earlier confirmed that James George Thomas, 25, and Levi Cayen, 20, have both been charged with one count each of murder and robbery in connection with the death of a man whose body was found on Dec. 28.
The men are both from Hay River, RCMP confirmed to News North.
Both men have been remanded in custody and are set to appear in court on, Jan. 8.
Hay River RCMP and Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crimes Unit made the arrests following the discovery of a deceased male on the morning of Dec. 28.
RCMP had responded to a report of a vehicle on the side of the road to Sandy Creek near the Katl'odeeche Hay River Reserve. On arrival, officers found a deceased male inside the vehicle.
"While the investigators continue with this investigation, we wanted to let the people of Hay River and the Northwest Territories know that we do have persons in custody. At this time, we do not believed there is a concern for public safety in relation to this on-going investigation," NWT RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon stated in the an earlier release.
Court documents name Alexander Norwegian as the victim. He is believed to have been killed between Dec. 26 and 27 on the Hay River Dene Reserve, according to the documents.
Thomas appeared before justice of the peace Mark Wharton on Jan. 3, where he had his charges and language rights read, files state.
