Acclaimed Iglulik director Zacharias Kunuk will be this year鈥檚 recipient of the Order of Nunavut, the GN announced Tuesday.

Kunuk, a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is co-founder of Igloolik Isuma Productions whose 2001 film Atanarjuat: the Fast Runner earned the Cam茅ra d鈥橭r at the 54th Cannes Film Festival.

The Journals of Knud Rasmussen, Maliglutit (Searchers) and Exile are among other films that Kunuk has directed.

鈥淭his year鈥檚 recipient of the Order of Nunavut is an internationally-renowned artist whose
creative vision has brought Inuit culture and language to a global audience,鈥� said Speaker Joe Enook.

Kunuk鈥檚 investiture ceremony will be held during the spring sitting of the
legislative assembly during the last week of May and first week of June, on a date to be determined. Nunavut Commissioner Nellie Kusugak will preside.

The Order of Nunavut was established in 2010. It鈥檚 the highest honour bestowed by the GN.
