A variety of musical acts will hit the NACC stage this week in support of a local high school.

Beaton Mackenzie, an educational assistant at Sir John Franklin High School, organized the High School-apalooza fundraising concert to buy instruments for the school鈥檚 music program.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a lot of variety of music from jazz to instrumental to bands with folk and original music and there鈥檚 choirs singing too,鈥� said Mackenzie.

The first half of the show is made up of solo acts, while the second half will be performances by local bands and choirs. Each set will be about 15 minutes to accommodate all the different acts, said Mackenzie.

鈥淭here are present students that are in the music program for the choir and band and students that are graduating,鈥� said Mackenzie, adding that some have been accepted to university music programs.

鈥淲e have alumnus, Brendan Callas who鈥檚 a former Sir John student, musician Carmen Braden and Pat Braden,鈥� he said.

If they sell out, the concert will raise over $8,000 for new instruments, said Mackenzie.

鈥淚f you really want to come out and support the music program for students in the city, this is a great opportunity,鈥� he said. 鈥淵ou鈥檒l be very pleased with the performance and with what鈥檚 being offered.鈥�

Tickets are $30, and the show starts at 7:30 p.m at the on Wednesday evening.
